Hydration is one of the key elements to healthy looking skin. It is recommended that we drink at-least 2 liters of water per day. Drinking water has so many benefits to your body and skin, it helps with circulation, digestion, absorption and it leaves the skin looking smooth and fresh.
I always think of skin as being like a sponge, when a sponge has no moisture it feels dry, rough and dull however when water is added to the sponge it becomes plump and bouncy similar to our skin.
The lead up to the wedding can be stressful and extremely busy, I always recommend my clients to carry a liter bottle of water around with them especially the week before the big day. By doing so and drinking the recommended daily amount, it will enable the makeup to sit perfectly on the skin and will also make you feel awake and fresh for the wedding day.

Another key factor to healthy, young looking skin is ensuring you get enough sleep. Health professionals recommend 7-9 hours of good quality sleep per night.
I'm often asked why sleep helps with healthy looking skin and quite simply it's because the skin repairs itself and recovers whilst we sleep. Our skin produces new collagen which prevents sagging and fine lines, this is part of the recovery process.
Exfoliation is so important to your regular skincare routine, there are 5 different layers of skin and when dirt and debris builds up it causes the pores to become blocked which can then cause spots, wrinkles and other skin issues.
It is recommended that you exfoliate atleast 2 times a week with a gentle scrub designed for the face, alternatively for more sensitive prone skin there are 7- day exfoliating scrubs available.
I recommend the 7-day scrub from Clinique, having suffered from skin problems in the past this exfoliator is extremely gentle and creamy, perfect for the removal of dead/dry skin cells. I recommend brides to exfoliate 1-2 days prior to the wedding day.
Moisturizing your face daily will keep your skin looking radiant and feeling hydrated, the moisturizer will act as a barrier and help to protect your skin from everyday dirt and debris.
Keeping your skin hydrated on a daily basis will also prevent skin conditions such as redness, flakiness and will also slow down the ageing process.
I recommend the Clinique- Dramatically different moisturizer, it's lightweight and fragrance free. For those who have a very dry to dry combination skin tone a moisturizing lotion/cream is recommended and for those with an oilier skin a gel can be lightweight but with the same benefits to a lotion. For those requiring an extra boost of hydration, Clinique- moisture surge is incredible and will leave your skin looking fresh and hydrated.
The skin around the eyes is thinner and more fragile meaning the area around your eyes is more prone to fine lines, wrinkles and dryness. Fluids underneath the skin and around the eyes can cause puffiness and dark circles.
I recommend my clients to use a rich, nourishing eye cream that will illuminate the eye area. The Elemis pro- radiance illuminating eye balm is great for refreshing tired looking eyes. The product contains Chamomile, Arnica and omega-rich apricot kernel oil which all contribute to making the eye area smooth, hydrated and helps to diminish the look of dark circles.
For a quick fix to red, tired eyes I also recommend the Optrex brightening eye drops, within minutes they make your eyes look brighter, whiter and sparkling ready for the day ahead.
7. Sunkissed Skin
Every bride wants fresh, moisturized lips for her wedding day. The lead up to the wedding can be very hectic meaning many brides may not drink enough fluids and become dehydrated.
Dehydration can cause the lips to become dry, cracked, chapped and this can become painful and uncomfortable.
The Burt's Bees- beeswax lip balm is extremely nourishing, rich in vitamins, coconut and sunflower oils which conditions and softens the lips whilst the beeswax seals in the hydration.
Many brides like to have a glow on their wedding day, it looks beautiful against a white or ivory dress and looks fab in photographs.
I recommend the Clinique self sun. This fantastic product doesn't smell or streak and has two different tones- light/medium or medium/dark. The product is a gel like consistency and has an instant color to allow you to see where you have tanned.
Apply two nights prior to the wedding day and ensure you exfoliate beforehand.

This beautiful product is the Touche Eclat blur primer, it evens out skin tone, fine lines and blurs pores. The gel is mostly transparent but has small particles of glitter to illuminate and create a glowing canvas perfect for makeup to sit on.

Fragrance is a personal choice as everyone has a different sense of smell. Whilst many brides will use their favorite perfume, many others will search for something different for their wedding day.

10. Avoid Caffeine, Fatty Foods & Excess Alcohol
Caffeine, fatty foods and excess alcohol can all lead to feeling bloated and tired.
Caffeine excites your nervous system meaning you heart beat increases and this can cause difficulty in sleeping. Too much caffeine can also cause headaches and anxiety.
Fatty foods can be very bad for your skin, personally I wouldn't recommend indulging in unhealthy foods in the lead up to your wedding day. The oils, carbohydrates and sugars can cause the body to feel bloated and sluggish and the skin may also produce blemishes and other skin imperfections.
Excess alcohol can leave your body feeling tired and can also have an effect on your mood.
By cutting out all of the above from your diet prior to your wedding day, you are likely to feel more alert, happier and it will reduce the risk of blemishes on your wedding day.
